The Department of Geography was established in 1999, as a realization of the University proposal, which was first submitted in 1994.

This proposal was improved and then incorporated into the Business Educational Plan and the Initial Vocational Training Plan of the Greek Ministry of Education, Mr Kostis Hatzimichales (Professor of Economic Geography), was at the head of the University's effort.
